Sony = Retarded
I have no clue why Sony opted to put this radical new architecture in a gaming console. Not only is already costing a fortune to develop and manufacture, it's architecture results in a totally different animal for game programmers to deal with. They get to code for seven synergistic processing units and a single PowerPC processing unit. Hooray!

Then there's the XDR SDRAM. What. The hell. It's bad enough that companies like OCZ and Corsair are labeling their RAM like it's a friggin' graphics card, but to name a memory standard "eXtreme Data Rate" memory is just ludicrous, and completely unprofessional.

But, I digress. My criticisms of the name itself, Sony has, once again, thrown a very large wrench at eager game programmers. Rather than coding their games to adequately make use of a large, single cache of 512 MB of system memory, they have to split the load between 256 MB of GDDR3 and 256 MB of XDR. I really wonder how that's going to pan out.

Generally speaking, I'd be kosher to up and say "Man, those Sony engineers know what they're doing, therefore I shouldn't make snide comments," but I really get this idea that the Playstation 3's "innovations" are going to be less than noticeable between the competing consoles, and will likely end up to be more of a hassle for game programmers ending in the Xbox 360 having significantly more/better games. Oh well.

Somehow, if the Playstation 3 is a colossal flop, I don't have much pity in my heart for a company who sues middle class families for $14 million for music piracy, or installs rootkits on people's computers. Eh, screw you, Sony.
