Yet everyday, we call people that are happy that we offered them whatever it is we're offering at that time, because they didn't know the product existed.
The problem is rogue telemarketing companies, like the ones that got sued on DirectTVs account, or like the one's Verizon is suing, companies that don't play by the rules.
Bottom line, if you don't want to be called, register yourself on the National Do-Not-Call registry. If you do this, no legitimate telemarketer can call you. Those who do, well shame on them, but I wouldn't blame the legitimate telemarketers for the sins of the illigitimate.
Also, think about the employees. Many telemarketers get their job as a last result, and this job is the difference between having a roof over their heads and being homeless. Many telemarkters have issues that prevent them from working directly with the public, or they have a criminal record etc.. If all these people loose their jobs, they will become a burden to the state, aka me and you.
Finally, why would call them clowns? These are real people with families to feed trying to make an honest living, and a good telemarketer is neither pushy nor obnoxious.
And I really don't buy the invasion of property line, telephone lines aren't private. Your house is private, if someone comes into your house, that's an invasion of property. Calling you isn't, its like knocking on your door. Would you ban all unsolicited door-knocking?
