i wouldn't call it over confident at all
I was part of those layoffs at one point and I said it wouldn't happen again. Instead I picked my head up and started my own consulting firm. I now work for myself and know that there's always a need for onsite services for clients. I adapted, and overcame. I was basically commeting on Antons comment. He goes on and on about these poor people who lose their jobs, but doesn't see that the companies that laid them off did because they are/were replacable. IT must adapt and learn constantly so that they can be irreplacable in situations such as this. He claims that F/OSS makes people lose jobs and was merely mentioning that it's not F/OSS that's causing the job loss, it's the people becoming stagnant and loosing their value. With the implementation of F/OSS, programmers will have to adapt and learn different things, support of these programs or custom applications is where they will be led. If they are worth their money, they wont have a problem finding work at all, if they are lazy, then yes, big problem for them and they can only blame themselves.
