Most Linux development is done for money, be it applications or kernel development. Sure there are a whole bunch of people contributing to it on a volunteer basis, but that ignores the core people who are actually paid to develop it. I'm sure you've heard of RedHat, Novell/Suse, Mozilla etc. People work for them for actual money.

The advantage of Linux is that no one owns (in the Microsoft sense) the product, and that anyone can contribute to it, and Linux benefits from that.

So, crowing about how it will hurt Microsoft is kind of lame as offshoring is a short term fix for a high labor cost problem. Over time the folk over in India/China etc will earn more and more, and then better reasons than cost savings will have to be raised if offshoring is going to continue.
