Egypt is a better place to outsource than many other countries
First let me say that I am NOT happy with the flood of outsourcing going on.

That being said, Egypt has a lot more going for it than many other countries when it comes to outsourcing. Having been there several times for business purposes I can say that things do work and they do get done. Telecom Egypt has one of the most modern communications networks in the whole Middle East. It was just completed last year and paid for by USAID.

People do move at a slower pace which can be aggravating for the high pressure ?time is money? US executive. Many people speak excellent English. Just about everyone makes an effort to understand and help you get things done. So long as you have some cultural sensitivity your efforts will go a long way.

Personally I prefer the general environment and physical conditions in Egypt to of those of some of the other outsourcing centres, especially India and China. Egypt will never be a major player headcount wise, but there are a lot of smart people there so they will very likely move up from the call centre business to a more value added model.

And finally, I have nothing to do with either the Egyptian government or USAID.
