Am I the only one who asked himself why the NSA wouldn't attack the undersea cable on land, at the landing station, instead of going to the trouble of constructing a purpose-built submarine and trying to splice fiber thousands of feet underwater? I mean, I read a great essay by a "hacker tourist" who gained access to a landing station simply by asking; you would think the NSA would have thought of it. Given all the technical hurdles this and other articles present, that would seem to be a far more elegant solution.

Are the slew of articles about deep-sea spicing simply intentional misinformation or what?
