I Bought into nothing
I fully understand what your saying. I should not be stopped from making a backup copy of any CD I own in the chance the original could be damaged while stored in my car. If I want to put the cd's into my computer to create a cd of my favorite songs, I should have the right, just as I have the right to take bits and pieces from various tool kits to create my own tool kit I carry in my truck.

Unfortuneatly, since no one can verify my intent when I make a copy of my cd, or put them into my computer, what choice do the labels have? I'm paying the price along with the pirates for their illegal activity.

As for the labels wanting to charge you 4 times for the same song, well, thats their right. Just becuase you bought a CD of your favorite artist does not entitle you to another copy free of charge. Same with the CD vs. 99 cent download.
I should not have to pay extra for the maintenance of the download site in the cost of a CD purchase, so that money has to come from somewhere, hence paying again to download the song.

So, I "bought" into nothing, I just comprehend the cause and effect.
