Bad example

ViiV is nothing more than Intel's branding of the same media center boxes that have been out for years. Unlike Centrino, You can build a Viiv box from parts obtained from Newegg. It's rehashed marketing fluff. Unfortuneately, many will "drink the Kool-Aid.Although I have moved out of the PC repair business, I still do side work. I see a lot of these Media center PC's and damn few have been in anyone's living room. The one's that are there, are rarely doing more than what any other computer does. They bought it because they were told by someone in a big box store or a Dell rep that that was what they needed. The seamless, integrated multimedia home is still a long way off.

I wish Apple all the luck in the world. I like an underdog, but Steve Jobs will always be a genious on one hand and an idiot on the other. He has bought to market some of the most inovative tech products of the last 20 years and still misses some of the bigger picture. OS X is the best feature of Macs, not the hardware. (Espcially now that they have gone Intel.) Apple is in a golden position to cause M$ grief and gain marketshare. Not to mention a buttload of cash. So what is Jobs doing? Keeping OS X Mac only. It's time for Apple to realize what the rest of the tech world has known for years. There is nearly 0 profit in hardware. Software and services are the money makers. Apple has ridden that horse as far as it will go.
