You appear to be confusing 'free market' with 'ownership of property'. If I create a thing, I have the right to own and control that thing. If that rule applies to ME, then it MUST apply to everyone, including artists and software writers.
Your analogy with house ownership seems irrelevant - for most people, house purchase involves the taking out of a mortgage. This means that, while your name is on the 'deeds' of the house as the owner, you still have a 'secured' debt on the house until the mortgage is paid in full.
No-one said that you couldn't share your OWN property - that's quite right and healthy. The point I was making was that you DON'T have the right to share the property of others - if those 'others' choose to give you that property, then that property becomes yours, but in the case of ephemera such as software/music/video, your purchase of that property is for ONE copy (or however many are stipulated on your licence), not for as many as you choose to make.
Oh. Not only am I not American (and happy about it), I also happen to believe that Communism AND Socialism are so open to corruption as to be unworkable as political systems. And the same applies to extreme right-wing systems - the politial 'spectrum' is, in fact, a circle, with both ends meering at the point called 'stupidly idealistic'. - Posted by: barnsk2000 Posted on: 01/31/06 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
