only problem
The only problem with your logic.

If they could not sell it for $50 during the initial sales period they would never make it. There would be no DVD's, no PC's, no HDTV, No home networks.. etc.. Companies spend millions to develop products and if they cannot get that money back they would not even start to build them.

In the late 80's major software companies went to Russia to make Russian versions of word processors, spread sheets and database software. They spent millions in developement. Before they could sell the software it was on sell in the Russia open market for a few ruples by the russia developers that worked on the project with them. When they complained to the government they were told that Russia did not recognise their license and did not offer them protection from piracy. That is why those companies did not do that again and took major losses for that year.

The math is easy. No protection = no profit = no developement = no new products.
