Blame it on the Stock Market
If it were not for the Stock Market, then companies would not be so hard pressed to make hugh profits, which drive up the costs of most goods.

It's a visious circle as the companies raise prices and turn to devious methods to look more profitable so as to keep the stock holders happy. Including vauge patents and lawsuits galore. To hell with consumers. They must pay pay pay.
