If it were not for the Stock Market, then companies would not be so hard pressed to make hugh profits, which drive up the costs of most goods.
It's a visious circle as the companies raise prices and turn to devious methods to look more profitable so as to keep the stock holders happy. Including vauge patents and lawsuits galore.
