Software start-ups feel the pinch

Lingering effect of the Dot-Bomb mentality.: Before the bomb in the dot bomb people became convinced they could come up with an idea on Monday, go public on Wednesday, and retire on Friday. In fact it happened, a LOT.

The problem now is developers are looking for another way to do it all over again. The idea of taking say 10 years to build a real company, develop long term partners, growing at a substained rate, and building REAL VALUE is something most simply want no part in. It's way too much work and effort...

I do a lot of consulting and when I listen to associates in other companies all they can talk about is creating a business aplication that is so wonderful one of the big players will run in and buy them out. When I ask them what their time frame is they always say 2 years or less. When I suggest that they might build a great company in say 10 to 15 years they all look at me like I have two heads and came from another planet.
