People like to spend money
A perception of you get what you pay for is out there. Not that this perception is a bad thing but it's being taken advantage of. Somehow the price acceptablitiy is very high. When someone offers a much lower price it is view with suspicion even though the lower price provides good profit to the company or contractor offering the lower price.

I don't see this trend changing anytime soon.

Now if only I could keep a straight face when asking for 100 times the price to task that I know I could do for a much less. Example: I can make a hefty profit doing a job for $2000 but the going rate for the job is $200,000. Do you think if I offered to do the job for $2000 that people wouldn't just think I must be incompenent due the fact I'm not ripping them off. Talk about silly but hey more money my pokey. I just have to keep from laughing when they offer me the contract.

I've seen this so many times and I've been stung for offering a reasonable rate.
