DVD in the Theater
That's an incredible idea, and one that all the theaters should get behind. As long as it's not overpriced, it the ultimate way to collapse the distro windows. The theaters make more money by selling the DVDs, people no longer have to wait 6 months after the theatrical release to get the DVD, and the studios save on advertising costs. Everyone wins this way. If they're truely worried about bringing people into the theaters, they could just delay releasing the DVD to Walmart by 6 weeks instead of 6 months. By then, the movie has moved out of the major chains so their money is not lost, yet the people who live to far away, can't find the time, or can't afford "the experience" at $16 (1 movie + soda + popcorn - the scene you missed because you just drank a liter of soda and had to run to the bathroom) don't wait forever to rent it or buy it for $20-25 so you can watch it as often as you want from your couch (and pausing the movie when the bathroom calls).
