Your so-called independent reviewers used Intel tweaked benchmarks for the tests. These hardly consitutes a even playing field. Apple used the standard tests using comparable operarting systems, that were tweaked to be sure. However, why are standard tests that were modified over a decade to make Intel chips look good and better?

At the time of release, many of the standard every day tasks were faster on the Mac G5 than the fastest Wintel machines. It wasn't the run away that Apple showed on its benchmarks, but they were faster.

As a couple posters mentioned, it wasn't long before Intel caught up. I would still say for every day tasks, they are about equal OS X on PowerPC vs Windows on Intel or AMD. However, that's more due to Windows causing the slowdown, not the Intel or AMD chip.

I think we might be able to now see how much faster the actual Intel chips are than PowerPC because we have OS X on both. Comparisons that will be coming out soon will show that.
