You've Ignored MS's Dirty Underhanded Dealings
They provided a superior product? I don't think so. They short change competitors by witholding APIs and that caused competitors to struggle at making a product that is stable on an already unstable platform. This is how MS did it against their competitors.

For example; try opening up a mini store selling new widgets inside a Walmart. If they find that you're making good money on a good idea, they'll start selling it. Then they'll allocate the best floor space for that competiting product and push you to the back of the store. Then eventually, you go out of business. Bottom line: You cannot compete with a competitor that controls the platform or building. Any idiot or pack animal knows this. This is why Linux is so important for the future of our IT industry. We cannot have a vibrant industry as long as Bill Gates is allowed to operate his criminal empire where Microsoft's business model is to extinguish any sign of competing innovation.
