- Desperate company making desperate charges
-
SCO Group (formerly known as Caldera)is nothing short of a pathetic little company that chose poorly in what path they were going to follow. They sold a reasonable distro of Linux and thought Unix would be their path to the big time, and it was not.
Until shortly after they filed the IBM case Caldera sold a disto of Linux. They, in fact, benefitted from the very thing they claim Novell has benefitted from. What would the damages be if they prevailed since they benefitted from these alleged copyright violations. This is to say nothing of the rules under the GPL, which they agreed to when they sold a distro of Linux.
Caldera\SCO chose to attack IBM, Novell, AutoZone, Daimler\Chrysler etc with what increasingly appears to be very questionable litigation. The appearance is they were expecting IBM and\or Novell just to buy them out to make them go away. This company Caldera\SCO has a very tiny market cap, (less than $75 million) and in reality means little or nothing in the world of technology or IT. Take a look at the stock (Symbol SCOX) and you see there is little there. It increasingly appears they simply were looking for a big pay day in the hope that IBM or Novell would buy them out to make them go away. Insiders control a very large percentage of the stock. this looks like it is less about copyright violations and more about a tiny little company that has little futute trying for a pay day they do not deserve. Some companies innovate, others litigate. - Posted by: drichards1953 Posted on: 01/07/06 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
