My brother is an audio-phile and he impression is that the iPod has the best 'pure' sound. He is not real keen on the equalizer built into the iPod software, but for pure sound, iPod is the best. No pops, hisses when using a quality sound file (i.e. read 'ripped from CD', not 'ripped from the net'.
