Hmmmm...Don't make near 100K per year myself.
As for affording to keep people alive two very important factors
would changle all that.

First if we were to actually fix problems then the cost of living
would go down. In other words not treat but CURE!!!!

Second if we are to continue to treat then it is time to stop
making profits off of human missery. Drugs are the killer in the
Health Care mix.....sell all drugs new and old at generic prices
and there goes a major if not THE major cost of health care.

No I do not beleive for a moment that all the money is drugs in
the only reason that someone would continue to create new and
in theory improved drugs because to be frank a research
scientist or research team does not give a blank as to who signs
their paychecks only that they get paid and if BIG BUISNESS is
not needed (which they are not) then yes government can pay
the scientists and provide benefits to said and we can still get
our treatments. Who knows without the stress and preasure to
make ever more from new drugs maybe....just maybe we will get
safer drugs and those that are not safe will not be pushed on us
in the first place?

I'm a strong believer in capitalisim and the free market.
However there are some areas of life that do not follow the rules
and medicine is one of them. We as consumers loose all our
power when the choice is either A: Pay us what we demand or B:
DIE!! The consumer looses his/her power to control pricing with
choice and the industry does what it is doing now act like a hog
at the trawth with no sign of ending. Sometimes the consumer
is helpless and some other system has to be used.
