I rhink the problem is what about the rest?

Even "IF" Techboy's sceme works it would only work for a select
few?

What about all the WalMart workers and Burger King workers and
farm laborers our there? How could they possibly make ends
meet or progress in this future world where health care costs
continue to rise well above the rate of inflation?

Oh and to your point about immigration....There are signs that
much of the tech talent and engineers that we have trained and
attraced in years gone by are returning in droves to their nation
of birth and bringing all that experience and training home.
Why? Because they too can see the writing on the wall to
borough a term from those of faith...heh heh heh.
