Less than $0.99.
The songs selling at $0.99 were those considered worth buying at $0.99. Sales at $0.49 were substantially higher.

A difference of $0.50 might not sound like much, but given the volume nature of online sales, there is a greater likelihood of making a significant amount of money on a song by Bill Monroe, say, at a cheaper price.

The RIAA companies are trying to push down the price of many songs with the licensing costs they've set for the retailers.

The companies have some grasp of the volume business at the low end, but the fact they want to increase prices outrageously at the high end shows they don't understand completely.
