IT- replies ... Nice spin ...
to try and get out of ignoring and rewording the content of my reply (ie, iPod (SW/HW/service (iTMS)) isn't "locked into" Apple... it works on Windows as well).

Also about putting words in my mouth and additional intent or meaning into my post. Didn't know you were a mind reader or know what people mean or intend.

Successful Apple integration is the difference and defining factor, ignore it all you want but, from the results so far, it seems you have to live with it.

>>> How many various manufacturers can I choose from to play other DRM'd content? Now how many can I choose from to play Apple's DRM'd content? hmmmmm.....yeat that's not lock in and that makes for excellent integration as well I guess. >>>

Yes let's talk about choice...

Most mp3 players play MS's DRM as Apple's iPod plays Apple's DRM.

Big deal. You can still use an iPod et al on the Windows platform. And you can easily "rip" Apple's AAC to other formats (ie, mp3) to play elsewhere. Is MS's DRMed files so "friendly"?

Other than the recent expansion of Mac service thru Rhapsody, what other music services are Mac friendly?

Apples SW/HW/music... Mac & Windows

MS's approach??? Windows only

So much for choice and "lock in". And you try to claim MS has nothing to do with the overall "digital music/media" picture?

Quantity (more choice) does not necessarily equate to quality. That is in fact one of the reasons for the relative failure on the "anything but Apple" side and MS's attempt to implement "Play for Sure" (another point you also conveniently ignore... the reason the iPod is successful vs other (MS-friendly) players). Check out the proverb "Too many cooks spoil the broth", it's basically the problem on the MS-backed side.

Also, witness all the extraneous "junk" (all markets, not just mp3 players) that falls by the wayside. More isn't always better.

Back to the original bone of contention... it's not JUST marketing (as you claim) that has made the iPod a success. It's the all-round, superior "Apple experience" (THRU INTEGRATION and typically well thought out and planned Apple design and quality) that's the main factor.

Since you seem to need to have the last word, continue to ignore what you cannot refute and babble away.
