- IT Scion... Reading comprehension problem,
-
and thinking too, by the looks of it.
(and who is the emotional one here
"Reel him in... he took the bait")
>>> with a slew of verbage that goes nowhere. >>>
You spouted the verbal diarrhea, I only answered and corrected, which you have conveniently ignored.
Over a few posts, you blathered... "... iPod dominates due to excellent marketing but Apple is one of the late comers to the Mp3 player market. They added style to existing tech and nothing more." and "... what was new or innovative in any way?" (re Apple and the iPod).
I answered it's... "the integration of the iPod, iTunes and the iTunes Music Store that has the other "iPod killers" beat, now and in the near future." (reasonable pricing hasn't hurt either) Maybe you needed "seamless integration" or some other descriptor to get the point.
Not too difficult to understand or counter your "it's only marketing and style and nothing more" argument.
>>> Who is mentioning MS? Why would you even bring them into this? >>>
There are 2 major players contesting for the music/media (home entertainment?) market (leaving Real out of it)... Apple (with iTMS) and Microsoft (with all it's WMA-supporting partners).
Apple is winning BECAUSE of the successful "seamless" integration (iPod, iTunes and the iTMS), leading to ease-of-use, quality of "experience", etc. MS has tried to compete by pushing it's DRMed format and supporting rival music services but has failed due to lack of said SW/HW/"store" "seamless" integration (attempted thru "Play for Sure" qualification/labeling). Or are you going to claim that the MS-backed and based services are truly wonderful, hassle-free, "seamless" experiences? All other mp3 players are alike? (quality, ease of use, functionality-wise, etc)
Since, as you accurately pointed out (guess you can't be all wrong), Apple was late to the game, you can't adequately discuss the iPod's success without realizing why the others are so far failing, despite MS's attempts otherwise.
Good marketing obviously helps with the success of any product but, if it was mainly marketing as you claim (ie, no other distinct/differing/superior factors), MS should win hands down, marketing PR and BS master that it is. If Apple was offering a terrible product and service, word would get around and people would not buy into it.
>>> Integration of the iPod? Are you so ignorant that you don't realize that MP3 players along with online music stores and the software to mesh them has existed prior to Apple's entry? >>>
Are you so "ignorant" (and worked up) that you can't comprehend that I didn't say or imply any such thing?
Where did I claim Apple was first or the only one with such a product or service?
I may claim that Apple seems to be the (first and) only one to have gotten it right (ie, it just works at a price people will accept).
Riddle me this Einstein (cough)... with all these other mp3 players and services available and the 3 year head start they had (according to you), why were they not successful?
>>> In fact, Itunes had to catch up a little to offer a decent playlist. >>>
Caught up and surpassed. Since it was "3 years late", it's only logical it needed to build it's "playlist" (available online music?). Your point???
>>> Funny. You thought Apple "invented" that?? >>>
Funny? you can't read because I didn't say or claim that. It must be your hyperventilating... lack of oxygen must be blurring your vision and thought processes.
>>> Paying more for a less durable, although more stylish, player is every person's choice. If you're confotable with that than so be it. >>>
I own a (512MB) Shuffle as it's all I need (no style issues here). Durable is also questionable as there are issues with other manufacturers products too (you can't target, for example, the nano scratch issue and condemn the whole iPod line). And yes, the whole user experience thru Apple is good and I'm very comfortable with it (though I haven't even bought anything from the iTMS, I have enough music of my own without buying more).
>>> Glad to see you got so emotional over you're beloved Apple. >>>
Guess I could say the same thing re your "emotional" anti-Apple/iPod diatribe. Pot calling the kettle black?
And I certainly don't feel like a victim.
It's those that buy inferior products/services/technologies that are the real victims. As someone who appears intent on mindlessly slamming Apple and supporting others (out of spite?), you should know how that feels. - Posted by: MacCanuck Posted on: 12/13/05 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
