I have been reading a bit about geothermal energy lately.

Drill a five kilometre deep hole in the ground, pump in water, and out comes steam to drive a turbine.

Yes, I know it isn't quite a simple as that, but the idea is intriguing and I hope, as you are an expert, whether you might be able to tell us where we can read more on the subject in terms understandable by the layman.
