...because *you* don't buy enough Senators.
The US Congress is so screwed up I can't see any way to fix it. Senators & Congressmen are elected by the people in their state. But their *power* comes from the committees they're on. And their re-election money comes from the corporations affected by their power.
Even if a Senator *wanted* to do the right thing for people (assuming such a three-headed politician/lawyer/consumer advocate existed) he would simply not be elected next term -- because you dance with the one who brung ya, or you don't get taken out to the next dance.
