You know, the answer really is DRM equipment.
If you step back a bit the answer seems quite obvious to me. The argument here is the user should, and does have the right to make a copy, archiveal or otherwise, for their own use. Is that not correct?

Then certainly it should be possible (with DRM) to limit it by requiring a CD\DVD reader and a seperate burner. With controls in the OS (Vista), and on the MoBo, enforcing a duplication to "removable media" only would more than fullfill the right to copy while stopping the distribution of copyrighted material via the net.

And before anyone starts crying about the cost of a second drive, yoiu have always had to have a second recorder. If you copied a VHS tape you had two decks (or dual deck), same for cassett, 8-track, Reel to Reel, all the way back.

Such a DRM system would nicely meet the needs of both sides of the fence, although both would moan about it. No, the politcos are right this time, let DRM mature in both the technology and the market place.
