The DMCA Pretty Much Guts The Betamax Case
This is real simple. It is against the law to posses or sell a device to circumvent DRM. If the right holder makes the DRM prevent X to get around it or even talk about ways to get around it is against the law.

Also note that section 1201 says access control not copy control. This is the real reason why they are against this bill. Access control is not a right of the copyright holder listed in section 106. In order to Play, Read, View, or Run/Execute copyrighted work you need access to the work. In otherwords the right holders now have rights they didn't have before. They don't want to give up these rights.
