You trust the government???
I had nothing to hide in the late '60s and early '70s. Nevertheless, my compatriots and I saw our phones bugged, our mail intercepted, and even our persons attacked, simply because we had the nerve to disagree with our government leaders. I later found it both an honor and an irony that I subsequently spent 14 years in the Navy defending the rights, freedoms, and liberties that the Johnson and Nixon Administrations went to such effort to trample.

It is bad enough anytime we give the government power to intrude upon our personal lives, personal thoughts, personal points of view. We know by repeated demonstration that they are sure to exceed and abuse what we say they can do. Expanding their grasp out of fear is more damaging to the United States of America than any number of terrorist attacks could be. No matter what they do, terrorists can kill people, but they cannot destroy this country. In casting aside our essential liberties to gain a little temporary safety, we sow the seeds of our own destruction, and hardly a drop of blood spilled in the process.
