Tempted by blogs, spam becomes 'splog'

Excuse me while I chuckle

I'm not a blog enthusiast. Read very few of them (mostly on this site). The fact is, I find the term "blog" repugnant and misleading. Are we so lazy we can't utter the extra syllable to say "web log?" And they aren't logs in the traditional sense, more like open diaries or personal Op-Ed pieces. In most cases, they're a lot noise. Don't get me wrong, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but please at least put "some" thought into what you write.

So on the one hand, I'm totally amused. Suddenly the "blogosphere" has become just as polluted as everything else. And on the other hand I'm appalled but not surprised. Why did bloggers think they were going to be immune from threats to the Net? Did they really think that the "blogosphere" operated on some exalted plane, far above the mundane world of the normal Internet?

How long before the spammers attack video iPods with commercials for Viagra and porn?
