Depends on the market...
A lot of this depends on the market you're trying to reach. Obviously, you'll probably be more beholden to The Man when you're trying to get national or global success. But, if you're just trying to live comfortably, you could probably do much, if not all, of the things you've said in your own home.

1) A microphone hooked to your computer, and even some sort of cheap audio software. Even if you go for a full-bore product, it's a one-time expense (unless you feel like upgrading).
2) You can burn CD's and make labels in your home as well.
3&4)Certainly, it does depend on how you want to market it. If you want to go national or global, you'll likely have to do the corporate thing. But, you could probably put the music ads in your blog if you have friends who are relatively widespread, and offer samples of your work on the site. Also, you could probably leverage "open mic nights" at a local bar to your advantage.
5) Small business loans from a bank, if you plan on incurring enough expense to require one, can get the ball rolling.

Like I said, much of it depends on the level of success you wish to achieve. Then again, not everyone wants to be a global megastar--some are content to be minor indie-rock deities. The expenses could actually be only as expensive as you want them to be if you shop around.
