You seem to have avery Polly Anna view ...
... of how the music industry works. Isn't Itunes a new middle man? Don't they extract a fee for the artist's work? Are all artists going to be their own producers and mix their own music? How much do you think the average musician knows about booking concert dates, accounting, publicity and so on? Do you suppose the artists do their own artwork? Did you know that CDs still account for 90% of the music sold? It would seem that those pesky record companies still handle a lot of the tasks that the artists don't know how to do or don't care to do freeing them up to make music. Which after all is what they are good at!
