Quite a difference...
Ford sells the whole vehicle so of course it will not use a competitors "hardware" (ie, Chevy/GM CD Player)... Ford = Dell = OEM.

But with MS, it's only providing the "engine" so by rights, it SHOULDN'T have a say over what else goes into an OEMs computer, but it's overbearing monopoly power allows it to dictate what others install on their machines.

MS = Delco = Firestone

(MS threatened Compaq (amongst others) in the past when it wanted to pre-install Netscape and Quicktime. )

MS creates and owns the OS and can decide (within competition laws) what goes in it's OS. OEMs create and (should) own the computers they make and can (should) decide what goes in them, but with MS, they don't

Ford = OEM/manufacturer (ie Dell, HP, Gateway, etc)
MS = supplier

I'm sure Firestone, Champion or any other auto parts supplier would love to have the power and control (MS has in the computer world) to dictate what car makers can and cannot use when building and selling their vehicles.

Bottom line... MS should not be able to dictate what 3rd party apps an OEM wishes to install on one of it's own (not MS's) machines.
