At this point
the market has more influence over the prices than any whim MS has. In fact, given all the buzz generated by Google/Sun (and that's ALL it is, buzz) and the attention being paid to OOo (granted, much more in forums like these than the mainstream media), I wouldn't be surprised if Office 12 retails for less than Office 11 did. Ultimately, all costs are passed onto the consumer, but it is nowhere near as dramatic as you make it sound.
