... between Microsoft and the content companies in order to obtain the licenses necessary for MSN to open its own store. That left an opening for Real.

On the DRM front...

Now there are two major players. And Apple's DRM is not available to others.

Apple has managed the iPod's popularity well, of course, but sooner or later it will fade, as expensive fads eventually do.

Then there will be one.

David Berlind's Microsoft "media juggernaut" accelerates yet again. Time to consider it like that heavy equipment that flattens paving surfaces.
