the problem with speed limits
is that they're arbitrary and motivated by profit instead of safety. While speed limits are in theory a good idea, in practice they are set far below the speed that people actually drive, so they're a guarantee that almost everyone on the road is breaking the law, and is thus subject to arrest and search. Which is exactly how our governments want us to be.

There are also laws on the books for "driving too fast for conditions", "endangering the welfare of a minor", etc. that apply to someone driving far too fast in a school zone. However, laws that actually require discretion are not profitable for the various state and local governments to enforce.

If we wanted our roads to be safer, we'd set the speed limit for a stretch of road at, oh, the 80th percentile of speeds measured in a rigorous study. Then, those who significantly exceed the speed limit get arrested. This deals with the problem of the people who really do drive way too fast while leaving the rest of the population alone.

How does this tie in to smart ID's? The traffic enforcement system in this country gives police to stop a wide range of vehicles for traffic offenses, even if they have no intentions of enforcing the traffic laws.
