Why DO we need universally-readable "papers" in the first place. "Papers" have no place in a free nation.

Now, whether we still ARE a free nation is a topic for another debate.

And the requirement to "slot your card into the computer", gee, given the typical security of any government agency, how long will it be until somebody cracks it, and then how long until someone gets falsely accused of a crime because of it ?
