You said "And this is a _Democrat_ proposing this! I
wonder what the Patriot Act supporters would do. Plant
RFID tags in everyone's skulls?"

The greatest tyranical regimes of the 20 century were
all "liberal - help the little guy". We all know of the
many communist regimes, but forget that NAZI stood
for Natioanl Socialist Party. Our most recent well
known tyranny was the Bath party of Saddam Hussein
in Iraq, a pan Arab Socialist political movement - which
also rules Syria.

The greatest threats to basic freedom in the US today
come from the liberal side. The most egregious has
been the impositon of "speech codes" at various
colleges - in the name of not "offending" others.

Another grave threat - in our judicial system - comes in
the area of sex crimes (invariably the defendant is
male). The name of the accuser is left anonymous.
Their past cannot be brought up by the defense. This,
in the absence of hard evidence, invariably turns into a
"he said - she said" and most often ends up in a
conviction. Many, many innocent men have now been
released from prisons after it was found that DNA
evidence (not available when they were convicted)
exonerated them. All of this goes against the
constitutional right to confront one's accuser.
