He's not telling the whole truth
Its deception by omission.

The flag says "this is copyrestricted", so the signal is only fed to devices that are also "copyrestricted", so provided you replaced all your household equipment with copyrestricted equipment and provided some authority knows which is your personal equipment and which not, you could freely move it among your copyrestricted equipment.

So for example you buy a new PC, you register it as part of your personal set with a registation authority (e.g. Microsoft) and provided its locked down (has all Microsoft's new DRM with all the analogue ports switched off and the encrypted video channel to an encrypted monitor) you will be allowed to play the video on that device.

It has a few treats for them too, so just like TIVO they can say "delete this program after 10 days", so that they can auto-delete and therefore resell the same movies and programs over and over and over again. Saving a lot of money making new programs.

Oh course its nuts, they'll simply make their product so unattractive that people will watch something else, but in their mind they *are* television and so no competition could ever arise.
