Your browser is the problem ...
Use Firefox, install the CustomizeGoogle extension, and you can remove all ads from all Google pages (including GMail). Besides, as already pointed out, the Google ads aren't nearly as annoying as those on other sites (Yahoo, MSN, etc.).
