Yes, it is important to know how to use the size and get the most relevent results at the top. It also take a lot more processing power to deal with a larger index. All in all, this just goes to show you that Google puts the others to shame. The others can not even come close in terms of storage and raw back-end processing power. And shame on Microsoft, they have been at it for year more than Google, and have billions in the bank, and everything to lose.
