Clarification; IDG; other fun
You're correct in that technically CNET bought the ZDNet Website. Or it would appear. However, this article somewhat muddies the waters about who actually purchased what, and who's doing what for whom and for how long:

http://www.internetnews.com/bus-news/article.php/567721

As the article points out, Ziff-Davis had a two-year contract (from 2001) to produce CNET's single print publication, the venerable 'Computer Shopper' and apparently much of CNET's content for this Website (at least through last year) was coming from Ziff-Davis' stable of writers. I'm not sure now if ZD is still doing 'Computer Shopper' for CNET. However, at least through sometime last year, if you wanted to advertise in any CNET or Ziff-Davis print publication, you had to do it on a Mac.

Now, on to the Big Cheese of the magazine publishing industry, IDG (300 magazines and newspapers). Here's a job description for a position in one of their publishing groups:

"CXO Media is looking for a Sr. Graphic Designer to join our highly collaborative editorial design group. Responsibilities include magazine layout, directing photographers and illustrators and creating infographics for CXO's publications. The ideal candidate will possess 5+ years of design experience in an editorial environment. Candidates should have a strong editorial design portfolio, a degree in graphic design, proficiency with QuarkXPress, Photoshop and Illustrator, experience working with photographers and illustrators and a firm understanding of typography and digital pre-press in a Mac environment. CXO Media produces CIO and CSO magazines."

You can bet that this is a pretty typical job description for any of IDG's creative/production divisions.

Are we beginning to see a pattern yet?

Here's some fun claims from http://home.earthlink.net/~rhodyman/mac.html. I personally can't verify these claims, but the author has a backing URL here and there, and a few of these I've heard before this mention:

"Macs Niche In The Wintel World

Here are some of the things created on Macintosh for the Windows/Intel World:

* The Win95 logo was created with FreeHand on a Macintosh.
