Hows this for value:

The bad guys (whomever they are) launch a laser guided or television guided munition at your troops.

The basic idea described here, is used to blind or confuse the weapon. Your troops are spared.

Technology that can blind a guided munition and make it miss sounds like a good idea to me.

Or you use it to blind a camera on a spy plane...
There appears to be a lot of uses for this technology...

In principle (but perhaps not in practice) the applications aren't that different - it's just a matter of scale and timing.

(I agree on the paparazzi thing though.)
