What would Apple's proffit margin be?
To Say Apple and Dell (or HP, IBM) are in the same market is a mistake. They are computer makers, true, but the similarity ends there.

Dell is in the much more competitive "PC" market where low margin on high quantity sales is the norm, as you have other "PC" makers like IBM, HP/Compaq, Gateway, Home-grown. If the "PC" is your system of choice, you have a wide varitity to choose from.

If the Mac is your system of choice, you have....Apple.

Apple CAN ask a higher price as the Mac user has nowhere else to buy from, and will purchase a new system from Apple, no matter what.

What would Apple's margin be if HP, Compaq, IBM, Dell were allowed to produce an "Apple Compatible" system of their own?

About the same as Dell's I would think...
