No_Ax is greatly ininformed and has a narrow view of the world!
Levi Strauss & Co, an American company, farmed it?s work overseas and moved the company headquarters to a tax free zone (the Bahamas or the Cayman Islands, IIRC). The last American base of production closed in 2003! Do you have problems with this?

Internet City, Dubai, is very modern (in comparison to the rest of Dubai) and has many American companies farming out work to the companies. Many of their employees hold Masters degrees, and due to a local cost of loving, cost less to employ (based upon American dollars). They handle work for companies in the Americas, Europe and Asia.

While it is not always true of the work farmed to locations like Bangalore, India, the people who are taking the jobs (and having to work at night to adapt to the time change for American customers) are also holding many degrees and are living better than you think they are! This does not hold true for all of India, but it was good enough for Microsoft to set up operations there!

Office automation, networks and IT advancements cost jobs locally as people learned to work more efficiently and get more done in less time. IT was regarded by many in management including No_Ax, who compared them to janitors at one point, as a cost center! The work could be farmed out, initially to local companies but later overseas operations assumed the role.

As I stated in a post toward the bottom of the response listings, IT is but one operation that has been depreciated or outmodes by advancements in technology and telecommunications. Failure to adapt to changes is what is costing many of the jobs and resulting in the current unemployment (both reported and unreported) in many sectors of the US economy!

As to foreign companies paying US taxes (etc.), some European multinationals do pay US taxes, but then again, some US companies relocate to tax havens to avoid paying US taxes!
