....a monoculture would be good in this particular case.

Normally, one wants to avoid a monoculture because one flaw can
bring down the whole system. However, since DRM is doomed
from the outset, since we all know it's never going to work, having
an easily broken monoculture would at least save time and money,
compared to having lots of companies creating their own flavor of
easily broken DRM. A monoculture is only a bad thing if you
actually want your product to work.
