- American Innovation in Information Technology is the key...
-
This has been my point, and I agree with you on this. What does America produce or do that makes us so rich and powerful at present and in the past. Has anyone really thought about that???
I have the answer and its very simple. Its what managers in this country still dont see.....its INNOVATION. You can equate that to education and degrees, but thats not completely what creates innovation in the IT field. You can equate that to money, but you cant always buy that either. You can try to equate that to brains, but Ive met some PHD that were great as long as they were in their University bubble. In the industry, brains dont always equate to new technologies being created. Even Einstein knew what made a great scientist.
It was imagination, creativity, rugged individualism, and talent. Im not saying erase education or hard work or training. Im not saying smarts doesnt matter either. Im saying that American culture, and thus US Information Technology workers still have an edge over these monocultures overseas. We brinf innovative talent and a mindset that allows for greater ROI to business that used to be fostered in our field by business and venture capital. Because that is shifted overseas, there is this assumption that can be bought cheaply using or taking advantage of foreign educational systems. I think thats the silliest assumption business people have ever made. I would say Bill Gates comments last April are closer to the truth...we need to bring smart people here into "our part of the world" as well as imporve the "rigor" of our educational systems. The "innovation" still exists here because we have such a marvelous melting pot of ideas thats is so free here. Its tied to our free society and that fosters innovation. Allot of scientists have flourished here when brought over the past two hundred years because of American culture. Thats why I firmly believe the IT individual in this counrty is being grossly misjudged everytime some CEO hires some Indian overseas at one quarter of the price. When they come see it takes 4 Indians or Chinese workers for every knowledge worker here, they suddebly wake up. But it will take years of watching their "bottom line" to finally see that. By then, our kids will have move into other fields.... - Posted by: wildranger Posted on: 07/17/05 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
