- If I had a kid...
-
..I would teach them to value and look up to intellectuals, scientists, artists, and innovative minds, not womanizing-athletes and drug-addicted enetertainers like we do in this country. Thats the edge India and China have over American culture....there value system is right on track, and their educational system contains those values as well. America schools do the opposite! Tahts why 60% or our kids drop out of college to work at McDonalds, listen to Snoop Dig and our little girls look up to Britney Spears as role models.
As well, techies in schools are considered nerds and athletes are heroes...thats messed up, and teaches our kids dont be smart!!!! In busienss we now teach our young adults, being smart doesnt pay...be a smoozing, golf-club weilding manipulating sweet talking business person or politian and you will do well. Go for the quick buck, screw the consumer, and forget quality! Intelligence and creativity dont matter....just turn on the TV or buy your creativity prepacked...no one has time to create anything. We value CEO's and managers over the people who build the stuff that makes the money or the IT people that keep the ship aflaot and deal with the disorganized mess middle managers create. We offshore and undercut what matters and the result is we think we can manage and offshore our way out of the competitive market. India will soon have the smart business people and techies to do all that better, and where will this last island of CEO's and CIO's run to for their carreer security?
We need to reverse that if we want to survive in this world and compete! And it wont be easy to reverse that curtural trend in this country! We need to build a society that values intellgent people, not certificates, and MBA's, and athletes, and entertainers, and politicians, and fast-money lawyers, and easy money made cheaply. - Posted by: wildranger Posted on: 07/16/05 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
