more foreign companies buy services from us than us from them
...thats why what you say is not quite true. More comapnies come and buy services from us than we offshore. Thats the hidden truth thats not told. A number of recent studies show that despite the predictions of IT moving offshore, its still tiny compared to the volume of jobs and innovation sold from the US to offshore Companies.

Im not saying offshoring is good...its very bad. And it will increase and move some skilled labor over there. But I still predict, Like Gates said in April of this year, we are creating a technology vacuum and not supporting our kids in IT careers. There will be jobs that need to be filled. There are tons of layoffs in this industry today and more offshoring to come. But I predict that India and China are overrated, and thats already being shown in some surveys Ive read. Cost savings reported yesterday in offshoring software to India was on average less than 10%!!! WOW...that sucks! With the rising attrition rates over there now, poor innovation skills and in some cases quality concerns and security, not to mention rising inflation and salaries for certain skills, you will see many IT jobs return here. I think what India has over the US and whats keeping IT job acceleraton slow here, is they are building powerful outsourcing firms that can compete against companies here and that have a competitive advantage over US ones, like EDS and IBM (who started this mess!).
Ive even read Wipro and others may have an employee shortfall coming and actually recruit people from the US! How ironic huh?

I agree we need to protect this industry but Republicans have proven they NEVER protect workers. So we as voters are to blame for this trend. But IT, despite India and US business trends, is here to stay and going to get complex and demand workers all over the world...cheap or expensive, the work will outpace supply. How can it not?

And that means more work to come...if we can just get ourt kids in school and improve our educational system. Thats my concern...
