- Another industry lost....
-
The jobs migragtion is still in an early stage - if the code can be written for the kind of savings talked about, it is a matter of time before these jobs exit the US. Since short-term "bottom-line" thinking rules the day in the US - you are kidding yourself if you think jobs are secure here. Only issues like identity-theft, security or branding damage might stem the flow.
The gains of "free trade" were sold to us be people who emphasized the gains to the multinationals while not spelling out the exact cost to most americans. Not only are americans losing many manufacturing and now service jobs overseas, but now resources will also go. All our commodity goods, (steel, concrete, oil) will get more expensive and in turn will ultimately increase finished goods prices which will be increasingly unaffordable to americans who have downsized into lower value/paying jobs.
Most countries will protect a industry while it can grow - but not the US!!. And our loss of industies (consumer electronics, consumer goods, autos, and now furniture, large appliances, aerospace, computer, etc) will continue to grow. Maybe it was a mistake letting big businss run the US government. - Posted by: redstone Posted on: 07/16/05 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
