And *THAT*, Mr. Philidor is precisely the problem...
Ideas are NO ONE Individual/Entity's property! the **STUPIDEST** thing the U.S. ever did was to begin issuing patents for Concepts. Patents were instituted to assign rights of ownership of an actual working design, or in broader terms, an IMPLEMENTATION of an idea, *NOT* the idea itself.

If the opposite were true, we would *ALL* owe royalties to the decendants of the Phonecians for their concept of the alphabet, writing, etc. The very idea of patenting ideas is just ridiculous and absurd.

The ONLY reason to patent *ideas* is to perpetuate the profits of current patent holders, and prevent anyone else with a BETTER IMPLEMENTATION of the same concept from becoming a competitor. So, initiative, and inventiveness are stifled for all but the R&D departments of major corporations, and the world suffers to maintain their profits. Sounds like a GREAT idea, right?

Telling Amazon that they "own" the idea of One-Click purchasing over the web is ludicrous. If someone comes up with a BETTER way to implement that concept, one that includes none of Amazon's proprietary code, they should be allowed to create it and if Amazon wants it, let them BUY it, not steal it through our (ahh-Hem) "Legal" system.
